IVY GREEN CEMETERY
SUBVETS BURIAL SITES

Where are the submarine veterans burial sites
and who is eligible to be buried there?

In 1995 the City of Bremerton passed a resolution dedicating 40 burial sites at Ivy Green Cemetery specifically for burial of those veterans who have served in submarines of the United States Navy.  Subsequently, USSVI-Bremerton Base placed a stone monument there commemorating those submarine veterans.  Ivy Green Cemetery is located at 1401 Naval Avenue, at the opposite end of Naval Avenue from Naval Station Kitsap-Bremerton, generally known as PSNS.

Submarine qualified veterans (DD-214 required) and their spouses are eligible for this honor..  A full burial (side by side) for a submarine veteran and his spouse would require two sites, purchased at the same time.  A single site would be adequate for inurnment of cremated remains of a  veteran and spouse.

Charges related to purchase of sites or burial services including cremations are based upon mailing addresses of individual parties.  Non-Bremerton residents and those with P.O. Boxes will pay a 20% increase on all charges.  For example, a grave site purchased in 2004, would cost a Bremerton resident $840.00 and a non-resident $1008.00.  This initial plot cost does not include additional burial costs such as opening/closing the grave, liners, markers, etc.  Services and costs are reviewed annually by the Bremerton City Council and adjusted as appropriate.

The City of Bremerton does not accept partial or time payments.  Site purchases must be paid in full (and at one time) prior to preparing site deed and the purchaser is responsible for filing their deed with the Kitsap County Auditor.

Thirty-nine Subvet burial sites are currently available and may be purchased anytime.  For additional information contact our USSVI-Bremerton Base Chaplin at 830-4216 or, in his absence, the Bremerton Parks Specialist at 478-5320.
